Camera Prices 28% Cheaper South of the Border, Study Says

New Website, PhotoPrice.ca, Helps Thousands of Canadians Save Money

With the strength of the loonie, Canadians have been increasingly saving money by shopping south of the border. Cameras and photography equipment are no exception with a 28% average price difference between Canada and the US, according to a recent study from website PhotoPrice.ca. An extreme example of the 480 products surveyed was a Canon 100mm lens -- costing $659 CAD, but to be had for only $389 USD ($375 CAD) down south.

"What many Canadians don't know is most cameras and lenses are duty free," said Gordon Chiu, founder of PhotoPrice.ca, a cross-border price comparison website. "Even taking into consideration shipping costs, significant savings can be had by purchasing the same item from the States."

By presenting consumers with price comparisons from both Canadian and US retailers for cameras and accessories, PhotoPrice.ca has already increased the purchasing power of thousands of Canadians. "Our users love that we calculate applicable taxes and shipping for them," said Chiu, "With the rising dollar, we've seen a dramatic increase in traffic and visitors are pleasantly surprised to see how much more they can get for their dollar."

PhotoPrice.ca is the first Canadian cross-border price comparison website. It presents Canadian consumers with to-the-door price comparisons from both Canadian and US retailers for cameras and lenses.
